Sendai Mediatheque, TOKYO!
Thought I would pass along a few images from a lighting research project I did last week. Of course something like this only exists in Tokyo, and came from the fascinating mind of Toyo Ito, definitely a name worth looking up. The form for this multi-media library is inspired by seaweed leaves suspended in water. 13 tubular steel columns support the structure, house all forms of vertical movement, and flood daylight from skylights in the top sections. The dramatic effect of colored layers that appears at night is actually created from slight deviations in the flooring. Magic!
